Drawing in Gold & Silver
Saturday, Mar 2, 12-4pm
Learn the medieval art of metalpoint drawing in this four hour workshop with Jeannine Cook. Work on prepared paper with silver, gold, or copper to create subtle shimmering slow-art drawings. The creative practice is deeply meditative and promotes a state of profound, quiet concentration. Explore mark-making using metal wires and rods in a stylus, and diverse objects such as silver spoons, jewelry, coins, even metal pot scrubbers.
Participants will come away from the workshop with knowledge of how to prepare paper using metalpoint ground, how to create a tonal drawing range through a variety of mark-making techniques, and how to make use of silver oxidization. Participants will complete several small pieces, and will be ready to carry on independently with metalpoint. All required materials are provided.
The workshop includes an illustrated talk about the history of silverpoint and examples of present day work to enhance participant's mastery and understanding of the unique medium.

Pop Up Exhibit Featuring Works by Jeannine Cook
Feb 21 - Mar 8
We’re excited to host an exhibit of Jeannine Cook’s silverpoint drawings, Alchemy: Drawing with Gold & Silver. Jeannine is one of a small number of artists worldwide who specialize in silverpoint drawing, a shimmering medium of great antiquity in which silver, gold or other metals are employed for mark-making. Using a technique born in the medieval monasteries of Europe, Cook’s meditative art aligns itself with this ancient Western lineage of medieval illuminations while acting as a 21st-century witness. Currently focusing on figurative abstractions inspired by the natural world, Cook’s work is held in the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and in public and private collections around the world.
Jeannine's series, Botanica, will be on view from Feb 21 - Mar 8.
Gallery hours are W-F 1-6pm.
